Affiliate marketing has changed the face of retail in the past ten years. As a way to increase sales, corporations that offer retail products have begun to sign up help in the form of affiliates – individuals who assist sell the product for them in exchange for part of the sales price. The affiliates don’t really sell the product; they simply market it or create Internet pages that review or advertise the product. Their ads or Internet websites will have unique links that point to the retailer’s web site, and if the customer buys, both the affiliate and the retailer make money.

It’s a terrific system for both seller and affiliate; the seller just pays if the affiliate delivers and the affiliate never has to carry inventory. The market can be brutally competitive, however, as there are hundreds of thousands of individuals on the Internet who are trying to create money in this way. Each person who is involved in affiliate marketing is trying to find some sort of “edge” that will separate them from their competition.

Affiliate products can be computer software or electronic books, but they can also be physical goods, such as computer systems or other electronic items. One way to for an affiliate to simplify the process and make it easier to make sales it to limit the products that he or she promotes to individuals that are already widely known. While it may be possible to make money selling a great new product that no one has ever heard of, it is generally much easier to advertise a product that the public already knows and already looking for.

There are numerous companies that will pay you to advertise products that are already popular – MP3 players, computers, or trendy pieces of commercial software programs come to mind. There are many large on the web retailers that have affiliate programs, so it is not all that difficult to promote these kinds of products. Since the public is already interested in name brand  personal computers, for instance, they will be engaged in regular searches for them on the Web. All you need to do is to market the product in this type of way that they can find your ad or Website. This is much easier to do than to “create” a market for a new, unknown product.

It can be difficult  trying to create cash on the Internet without making it harder by promoting a product that no one has ever heard of. Make it easier on yourself by starting small and advertising things the public already knows that they desire.

How many times are you coming across this sort of tactic on sales pages for the latest ‘thang’ in Internet Marketing?

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen these ‘scarcity’ tactics being used to rush people into purchasing, only to see a few days later all the big names come out and promote those products heavily ,usually to their massive list of subscribers.

Furthermore, what’s with the splash pages with dollar amounts of $197 $147 $97 $77 for the next 50 people?

Does anyone else consider this is becoming a bit of a bore?

I recently bought a product which I won’t name, due to the vendor refunding my complete purchase (mainly due to Clickbank’s policy I feel) that did this trick with a nice video squeeze page intimating success could be had, whilst staying on the right side of the FTC regulations. Combined with the fact that only ‘n’ number of products was going to be sold, it was a no-brainer surely?

After deciding to part with the asking price, I was then told that this particular version was actually only to operate in one particular area and that if I wanted to really get the best out of it then I’d have to buy an upgraded version that was of course boundless and what I’d been led to believe was the case in the standard version.

So having expended‘n’ on the original product and seeing that the upgraded version was really only going to be a total of ‘n+80n/100’ then I fell for it. Turned out the upgraded version wasn’t up to much in any case and thankfully I was able to get my refund without too much bother. Since it was a software product, I think I stood a better chance of doing so.

I’ve yet to attempt to get a refund on an e-book or video course, as luckily I think I’ve been quite selective in my purchases so far. How does a refund on a course work for instance? Do you have send proof that you’ve deleted the videos and PDFs from your hard drive?

So what else annoys? All those exit scripts and pop-ups, which up to now I’ve always thought a reasonable marketing ploy to implement. I really do draw the line, however when I’m forced to go through seven or eight before I can get off the damn page.

You also need to be wary of the $x,000 get rich quick gang that promise you success from nothing, as long as you already have an email list of several thousand subscribers built up already (that part is generally absent from the sales pitch).

Bonuses!! We all love bonuses. Hey if you purchase xxxx from me founded on the review I just wrote from rehashing the sales copy then you’re not only going to get xxxx, but you’ll also get a+b+c+d+e worth a total of $65,536 (programmers can discuss the import of that particular number).

And who says it’s worth that anyhow? I can’t believe that you’re willing to give away that amount of value for the 50% of $197 Affiliate commission that you’re going to make. Give me a break!

Now, I find it amusing to watch one of these ploys being started by one of the big hitters and for it then to spread across the field and be the weapon of choice of everyone else for a while.

Should you want an fun exercise, sign up to some of the big names and try to spot the difference with the swipe mails when a new product launch begins? Use a new email account for this, of course.

So finally Dear Reader, before you purchase the latest ‘Supreme List, Traffic, CPA, PPV, PPC, Google Killer, Twitter and Facebook total extermination, genocidal code revealed’ product.

Consider waiting a while.Read reviews by folks that have actually purchased and tested the product at sites like the Warrior Forum (which incidentally is almost certainly the best resource for those fresh to the industry).

I would be willing to bet that if any product is really worth asking price then it’ll be around for a while yet, before eventually ending up as one of those very bonuses for the next big ‘thang’.

I’ll leave you with a tip for free (I should charge you $27 for this, apparently). Next time you’re about to buy one of these products and after you have done your due diligence the right way. Before you click on the big ‘take action’ button, try canceling the page and see how much they ping off the price.

You might have to go through the sequence of pop-ups and virtual assistants twice to get to the lowest price, but it could be worth it.

Oh and if they try the old OTO we’ve got your IP address, then take a look at a VPN solution like Hotspot Shield or even use a dynamic IP, if you can. Nah Nah!

There you go, two tips for free, but only for you and only for a limited time.

It is one thing for people to subscribe to your mailing list. It is another thing indeed to get them to reach for their credit card and purchase a product or service from you online, or something that you recommend.

Your list members will only become spending clients if you can earn their trust and then maintain that trust over time. And that will take a considerable effort from you.This is one of the most crucial aspects of  list building.

Here are a few of the methods that you can build trust:

  • Participate in forums that discuss your topic or industry that your list is connected to.
  • Send out a regular ezine with relevant, useful information on your topic. Provide your members plenty of solid  information without charging them.
  • Invite several respected experts in your field to provide some advice and recommendations to your members list.
  • Ensure your web site is user-friendly. By this I mean a web site with a nice design, relevant contents and easy navigation.
  • Include a Contact page on your site. Try your best to respond to all customer or visitor questions within 48 hours. Providing this contact information helps your web site to rank higher at some of the big search engines. When replying to customers that contact you through your website, remember to remind them to join your newsletter if they haven’t yet, which contains more information on the topic they are inquiring about.
  • Display clearly your Privacy Policy on your web site. This helps your members to trust you; especially if they know that you are not selling or giving away their personal details to anyone. Having this information will also help your web site to rank higher at some major search engines.
